Elementary

The Basics

Our elementary program will run from Transitional Kinder through 5th grade. Our program is full-day and runs Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 3:00 pm.

To enrich classroom instruction, we will have at least 3 field trips per year.

Students need to bring their own lunch. We will provide a list of allergens before the beginning of the school year so families know which foods to avoid when preparing lunch. Lunch bags will be checked daily to ensure our students are safe.

We offer an after-school program until 6 pm.

Bilingual Model

We use a 50/50 bilingual model; which means that half the day is in English and half the day is in Spanish. This model allows students to learn concepts in both languages and to quickly feel comfortable in a second-language since the English and Spanish portions of the day follow the same structure and routine. Teachers are native speakers to ensure students learn the best pronunciation in both languages. The learning pace and depth of exploration in each language is different for each student. For example, while a native English speaker learns how to count by tens in the English portion of the day, the student may learn to count from 1-10 in the Spanish portion of the day. Similarly, a native Spanish speaker may have the opposite experience, where the student learns to count from 1-10 in English and count by tens in Spanish.

Teachers

With a small class size (12 students max.), teachers are able to identify each learner’s unique way and rhythm of learning and plan the materials of the day to meet each student at their knowledge and skills level. Teachers  at Global Idea School are mentors who walk alongside each student and facilitate active student learning.

Approach & Curriculum

While our learning-teaching approach is based on STE(A)M©(S) and Círculo Mágico©, we use a variety of materials and strategies to teach specific content. Our cross-disciplinary curriculum complies with Washington State Common Core Standards. See Our Approach
