Jennie Knapp

Volunteer Librarian

Jennie Knapp received a B.S. in Cultural Anthropology from Northern Arizona University in 1979, inspired by her year as an exchange student in Colombia in 1973. After working in Public Health for 18 years managing programs allocating funds to non profit community clinics, she pursued a second career as a teacher by obtaining her teaching certificate through the University of Washington, Bothell campus in 2001.

Jennie taught grades 2 – 4 in the Northshore school district for 17 years, and loved the challenge the career offers in meeting the unique needs of each and every student.

She was honored to have been mentored in STEM teaching by the educational wing of Systems Biology, and observed firsthand how inspired students are when given the opportunity to work on challenging STEM tasks. She is a firm believer that all students enjoy being challenged, and that critical thinking is the key to student engagement.

Jennie is now retired and happy that she found a great match for her education passions through volunteering at Global Idea School. Married for 45 years, she is blessed to have her two grown sons, and their families, in close proximity, and loves the moments they can all be together. Another current passion is ceramics, and she enjoys as much time as possible at the pottery wheel, when not traveling far and wide with her husband.
