Juan Miguel Lavista

Computer Science Teacher

Juan Miguel Lavista is Vicepresident & Chief Scientist at Microsoft. Juan is involved in working to define the data science discipline within Microsoft and is currently the editor of the Microsoft Journal of Applied Research (MSJAR). He is also a faculty member at Singularity University and is a speaker on data science, big data, and artificial intelligence in the US and internationally.

Juan has two computer science degrees from the Catholic University in Uruguay, and a graduate degree in Data Mining and Machine Learning from Johns Hopkins University. He loves designing and running randomized control experiments, applying data mining, machine learning, and statistical modeling to understand the impact of programs and help solve world problems.

He is excited to teach students how to code and inspire students in the field of computer science. He learned to code by himself when he was 9 years old and strongly believes that young children are capable of coding with the right support. He lives in Kirkland with his wife and three children.
