Javiera Izquierdo

Math Teacher 3rd/4th Grade

Javiera is a passionate educator, deeply dedicated to her students’ growth and well-being. She has a bachelor’s degree in primary education from the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile, specializing in mathematics. She broadened her horizons through a university exchange program at the University of Ottawa where she engaged in elective courses related to education, enriching her pedagogical knowledge and skills.

She has worked as a head teacher, mentoring 2nd to 6th grade students academically and personally. She has also been an assistant teacher in Los Angeles, California, supporting 3rd and 4th-grade students during project-based activities and individual work. In the past, she actively volunteered, mentoring socially vulnerable high school students as a math teacher for a Chilean foundation.

Javiera has experience working with the “Making Thinking Visible” methodology, which is crucial to her teaching philosophy. This methodology is particularly significant because it enhances academic learning and encourages students to express their thoughts and emotions openly. Mrs. Javi believes that this approach is a stimulant for fostering a supportive and empathetic classroom environment, which is fundamental for the socio-emotional growth of her students by facilitating deeper understanding and promoting active communication.

Javiera lives in Kirkland with her husband and two children. She loves cooking and doing outdoor activities with her family.
